Michelessi vision: outdoor kitchen sculpted from a single block of board-formed refractory stone, wood-fired oven glowing at night, brass edge along the worktop

Since 1976 — a Michelessi vision

Refractory stone kitchens,
the substance of fire

From garden barbecues and wood-fired ovens to bespoke modular compositions: the solidity of refractory stone, the care of Italian craftsmanship.

Refractory stone — a Michelessi vision

From the mould,
the island

01 The mould still shut, boards and clamps: inside, the kitchen cannot be seen yet.

02 Circling it, the timber begins to fall away: inside the mould it is still dark.

03 The refractory stone turns satin: the steel barbecue, the sink and the oak fronts take their place, and the brass edge lights up.

Vision 01 — Our design studio

A blade of light
on refractory stone and oak

EXPOSED REFRACTORY STONE · NATURAL OAK · VEINED MARBLE TOP

Design vision: kitchen in exposed refractory stone and natural oak, with a blade of light falling from the skylight onto the island with its veined marble top

From the skylight a blade of natural light descends and cuts through the half-dark: it settles on the exposed-refractory stone island, kindles the veined marble top and warms the oak fronts one by one. This is a vision from our design studio — the refractory stone kitchen told at its finest hour, when the midday sun serves as the only chandelier. Everything else — the pots, the shelves, the hands — may come later.

Why refractory stone

Made for fire,
not merely enduring it

For outdoor kitchens and barbecues we use no cement and we do not build in masonry: with thermal shocks the inner structure deteriorates and after a few years it starts to give way. Our outdoor kitchens and barbecues are built in refractory stone, the very material ovens are made of: it is born to stand beside the flame and it holds the heat over time.

It is a choice you cannot see in a photograph, but you feel it over the years: the kitchen stays the one you had on day one, season after season, under the sun and under the frost.

Frequently asked questions

Refractory stone barbecues and kitchens: questions and answers

What does a refractory stone outdoor kitchen include?

A wood-fired barbecue, an oven with an arched mouth, a sink, worktops and log recesses, composed into a single architecture. Refractory stone, pale, grey or anthracite, meets the brickwork that guards the heat and the steel of the hoods that guides the smoke upwards.

Does refractory stone withstand rain, frost and sun?

Yes, and that is why we use it. For outdoor kitchens we build no masonry and use no cement: with thermal shocks the inner structure deteriorates and after a few years it starts to give way. Refractory stone is made for fire and holds the heat over time, season after season, outdoors.

How do I clean it, and how much maintenance does it need?

Water and a neutral detergent, never acids or aggressive descalers; the grill is cleaned when cold. No extraordinary maintenance: refractory stone does not fear heat and never needs rebuilding.

Can it be made to measure?

Yes. The Economy range offers ready, complete and robust models; every project can nevertheless be configured to measure for your space: 3D design shows you the kitchen before it exists, and installation is professional.

What are the delivery and installation times?

Times are defined on request, according to the model, the customisations and the place of installation: we state them together with the quote, which is free and starts from a measurement or a photo of the garden.

The collection

Fire finds its home
in refractory stone

There is a moment, in every garden, when the scent of embers calls everyone around the fire. Michelessi refractory stone kitchens are born for that moment: wood-fired barbecues, ovens with arched mouths, sinks, worktops and log recesses composed into solid, sincere architectures, designed for living outdoors in every season. Refractory stone — pale, grey or anthracite — meets the brickwork that guards the heat, the steel of the hoods that guides the smoke upwards, the stacked firewood waiting only for the first flame.

From the terrace overlooking the water to the country patio, from the contemporary courtyard to the poolside, every model in the collection — from 70 to 113 — carries the same idea: to make cooking outdoors a natural gesture, from the first spark to the plate served. These are our affordable outdoor kitchens: robust, complete, measured to your space, with bespoke configurations signed by the same hand that, since 1976 in Aprilia, has devoted the patience of Italian craftsmanship to the working of marble.

On this page you will find them all, one by one, each with its own story; our modular indoor kitchens have a page of their own. For the full barbecue range you can also visit our website michelessi.it.

Refractory stone outdoor kitchen model 109 with barbecue, wood-fired oven, sink and log storage, Michelessi

Model 109

Outdoor Kitchen 109, an Open-Air Theatre of Fire

There is an hour, towards evening, when the garden falls silent and only the promise of embers remains. The affordable outdoor kitchen 109 was born for that hour: a complete composition in pale refractory stone gathering the wood-fired oven with its arched mouth, the barbecue with its brick back panel, the sink and the generous log shelves, all beneath the dark line of the hoods that trace its horizon. Light glides across the surfaces and settles on the neatly stacked logs, ready to become flame; beside them, the green of the plants and the pergola complete the scene like a sequence shot at sunset. Every element is in its place, so that cooking outdoors becomes a natural gesture, from the first spark to the plate served. Michelessi refractory stone kitchens unite the solidity of the material with the care of Italian craftsmanship: compositions built to last, to withstand the seasons and to welcome your conviviality. Should you wish for a bespoke configuration, the same hand that works the marble will give shape to your outdoor space.

Model 71

Suspended Barbecue 71, the Lightness of the Wall

A white wall, the long shadow of the palms, a dark volume that seems to float: the wood-fired barbecue model 71 is an exercise in lightness. The suspended structure frees the floor and turns the cooking corner into an architectural gesture, while the steel hood with its taut lines guides the smoke upwards as naturally as a chimney. Beneath the grill, the pale bricks of the side counter receive the dishes ready for the table; on the ground, the logs wait in studied disorder, as in a still life. It is the photograph of an afternoon about to catch fire: the crackle of the wood, the fragrance rising, the wall gathering the light of the garden. Michelessi outdoor refractory stone kitchens are born this way, from honest materials and a made-to-measure workmanship that is the same as our marble atelier: handcrafted in Italy, strength without weight, forms that endure. All you need do is choose the right wall and let the fire do the rest.

Model 83

Outdoor Kitchen 83, City Flavours on the Terrace

The bright red tomato, the fragrant basil, the pale wooden board on the grey worktop: the affordable outdoor kitchen 83 is already set for its opening scene. Here the refractory stone turns dark, urban, almost metallic, conversing with the black brick of the wall as in a city courtyard. The composition places everything within reach: the electric griddle for clean, immediate cooking, the broad worktop for slicing and composing, the lower shelf that keeps pots and bottles close, with the wooden wine compartment adding a warm note to the story. Raking light ignites the edges and reveals the texture of surfaces made to live outdoors all year round. This is Michelessi's Italian artisan know-how applied to refractory stone kitchens: practical solutions, measured on your space and on your way of living the open air. Invite your friends, uncork a bottle: the terrace has become the most beautiful room of the house.

Barbecue 89, Brick and Breeze over the Water

A terrace overlooking the water, deckchairs turned to the sun, boats rocking beyond the parapet: in this Mediterranean scene the barbecue model 89 finds its natural place. The cooking chamber is framed by warm-toned bricks that hold the heat and give food back that ancient flavour of true embers; above, the broad-shouldered white hood gathers the aromas and entrusts them to the breeze. The pale refractory stone base, solid and tactile, houses the log shelf where the wood traces its spontaneous geometry, while the side counters keep everything you need close at hand. Afternoon light slides over the terracotta floor and kindles the contrasts: white, terracotta, blue. Michelessi outdoor refractory stone kitchens are conceived for places like this, where time slows down: made-to-measure work, materials that defy salt air and seasons, the care of Italian craftsmanship. Yours is the pleasure of turning the grill as the sun goes down.

Model 112

Barbecue 112, Modern Geometry at the Poolside

The water of the pool ripples with reflections, the pale wooden deck runs towards the house with its great windows, and at the centre of the scene rises the barbecue model 112: a monolith of exact proportions, where grey stone meets the dark steel of the squared hood. The brown brick back panel warms the interior of the cooking chamber, ready to receive the grill; beside it, the side counter with its lower shelf keeps bowls and tableware within a gesture's reach. It is architecture in miniature, drawn with the rigour of the contemporary villas that surround it: no superfluous ornament, only volumes, shadows and matter. When the embers are lit, the contrast is complete: living fire inside the perfect form. Michelessi refractory stone kitchens bring to the outdoor space the same precision as our made-to-measure marble work: studied proportions, endurance through time, made in Italy. Picture yourself there, a towel over your shoulder and the grill sizzling: the rest of the day can wait.

Model 111

Barbecue 111, Embers Framed in Green

The white wall serves as a backdrop, palm fronds enter the scene from the left, and the barbecue model 111 presents itself with the ease of one who is at home in the garden. The dark hood, broad and assured, crowns the cooking chamber lined in red brick, where the grill awaits only the first flame; the pale refractory stone counter stretches to one side to receive bottles, aromatic herbs and serving dishes. Lower down, the dark shelf holds the tableware while the logs, stacked in their storage bay, add their woodland scent to the picture. Everything is ready, ordered, within reach: only the match is missing. Michelessi outdoor refractory stone kitchens are born of a made-to-measure workmanship that favours substance: solid materials, careful joints, the enduring hand of the Italian artisan. Choose the right corner of your garden and let this composition transform it into a small refuge of taste.

Model 70

Outdoor Kitchen 70, Whiteness Beneath the Portico

Beneath the portico, between the red brick of the wall and the grey of the paving, the affordable outdoor kitchen 70 glows with its own whiteness. Blocks of pale refractory stone compose an essential scenography: the worktop runs long and orderly, its upstand protecting the wall; at the centre stands the green domed grill, a round-shaped protagonist that breaks the geometry with charm. The log bay frames the stacked wood like a painting, turning the firewood supply into a decorative element; nearby, the bucket and the utensils tell you that here people truly cook, often, and with pleasure. It is a domestic, sincere photograph: no artifice, only matter and its function. Michelessi refractory stone kitchens are just so: robust, made to the measure of your space, finished with the patience of the Italian craftsmanship that has always accompanied our work in marble. A portico, a few embers and a laid table: happiness, at times, has a simple recipe.

Model 96

Barbecue 96, the Evening Ritual on the Patio

Light falls over the patio, the wooden table is already laid with shadow, and the barbecue model 96 lights up its small stage. The white hood, soft in its tapering lines, rises towards the chimney like the hearth of a country house; below, golden bricks frame the grill where the vegetables have already taken colour. The pale refractory stone base carries the side counters and keeps, in its lower bay, the wood ready for the next flame; the amphora beside it adds a Mediterranean accent to the composition. The terracotta floor gives back the warmth absorbed during the day: it is the hour when the scent of embers calls everyone to the table. Michelessi outdoor refractory stone kitchens are born for these family rituals: solid structures, made to measure, handcrafted in Italy in the truest tradition. You bring the company and the desire to be together; the fire, the matter and the years are our concern.

Model 85

Outdoor Kitchen 85, Everything Within Reach

Basil and parsley in terracotta pots, lemons shining like small lights, a spring onion just laid on the board: the affordable outdoor kitchen 85 is caught in the midst of preparations. The grey stone worktop stretches wide and receives the integrated sink with its essential mixer tap, while the dark upstand protects the wall of slats and brick. Below, fronts of warm wood measure out the volumes and frame the glass-door refrigerator, where the drinks are already chilling; to the side, the log bay turns the stacked wood into texture. Refractory stone shelves, suspended like blades, add resting surfaces without weighing down the composition. It is a small open-air laboratory of taste, where every function has found its natural place. Michelessi refractory stone kitchens unite authentic materials and made-to-measure work, with the same attention to detail that Italian artisans devote to marble. Yours is the pleasure of cooking outside, renouncing nothing of what you have indoors.

Barbecue 88, Late-Summer Conviviality

Evening settles over the shared garden, the white bench awaits its guests and the barbecue model 88 keeps the promise of dinner alight. The pale hood, tall and well proportioned, rises above the brick cooking chamber where the peppers have already taken the colour of the embers; the tiled side counter, long and generous, lines up the bowl, the sweets and the bread as on an improvised buffet. Below, the two bays of the refractory stone base guard the firewood and the wicker basket, precious reserves for an evening that promises to run long. All around, the green of the hedges and the house lighting up remind us that conviviality is, above all, a place. Michelessi outdoor refractory stone kitchens are built for these moments: full, honest materials, made-to-measure work, the recognisable hand of Italian craftsmanship. Set the table, call the neighbours, pour the wine: the warmth, this composition provides on its own.

Model 86

Outdoor Kitchen 86, a Sink Sculpted in Grey

The camera moves in until it almost touches the matter: the worktop of the affordable outdoor kitchen 86 reveals its mineral grain, that deep grey which absorbs the light and returns it in soft patches. The sink is carved into the volume like a monolithic basin, a sculptural gesture that recalls the working of stone; above it, the black mixer tap draws its essential profile against the wall of burnished metal. Red tomatoes, lemons, basil in a terracotta pot: the colours of the garden ignite the scene and tell of its function, for here one truly washes, cuts and prepares. To the side, the wooden board with a freshly sliced onion bears witness to work in progress, while below the glass-door refrigerator keeps things cool. In Michelessi refractory stone kitchens every detail is born to measure, with a feeling for matter that is made in Italy through and through: surfaces to touch, volumes to live, tools that fear neither time nor season. Come closer: matter knows how to speak.

Model 82

Outdoor Kitchen 82, the Griddle Ready for Fire

Chives stand tall in their black pots like a small vertical garden, tomatoes wait on the plate, and at the centre of the frame the griddle of the affordable outdoor kitchen 82 reflects the afternoon light. The close-up reveals the meeting of materials: the grey stone of the worktop, thick and tactile, the steel drawer with its satin front, the control module with its precise knob. Behind, the black brick of the wall builds an urban, almost theatrical backdrop against which the green shines all the brighter. Below, the shelf holds the cast-iron pot and catches a reflection of the scene, like a mirror of shadow. It is technology in the service of the daily fire: immediate electric cooking, simple cleaning, no waiting. This is how Michelessi refractory stone kitchens interpret the outdoor space: true functions, sincere materials, made-to-measure work and the patient hand of the Italian artisan. All that remains is to heat the griddle and begin.

Model 113

Barbecue 113, Contemporary Rigour in the Courtyard

A courtyard of candid walls, a white chair in waiting, the glazing that offers a glimpse of the dining room: the barbecue model 113 inhabits contemporary architecture as if born with it. Grey refractory stone uprights carry the dark hood with its clean lines, while the red brick back panel warms the cooking chamber and lends it depth; on the counter, cylindrical pots and the waiting grill compose a minimal still life. To the side, the dark counter with its suspended shelf receives the dishes, light as a designer's ledge. It is a continuous dialogue between solid and void, light and shadow, raw matter and exact drawing: fire, here, becomes an element of composition. Michelessi outdoor refractory stone kitchens bring this silent elegance to your space: made-to-measure work, calibrated proportions, the care of Italian craftsmanship that never needs to raise its voice. Light the embers: rigour will learn to be warm.

Model 95

Barbecue 95, Country Flavours Beneath the Gazebo

The pale canvas of the gazebo filters the midday light, the stone wall leads the eye towards the house with its ancient roof tiles, and the barbecue model 95 presides like the true heart of the garden. Red bricks draw its structure with that artisan rhythm which speaks of the countryside; the refractory stone hood, its texture rough and lived-in, rises sturdily towards the sky. On the grill the vegetables are already arranged, the ladles wait on the left, the mortar and pestle tell of condiments prepared on the spot; below, the arched bay guards the logs like a small woodshed. A little further on, the wooden table beneath the pergola promises a long, talkative lunch. Michelessi outdoor refractory stone kitchens celebrate this convivial tradition: materials that age well, made-to-measure construction, handcrafted in Italy with a soul that outlasts the seasons. You choose the menu and the company; the setting, robust and generous, matter has already provided.

Model 87

Outdoor Kitchen 87, the Morning Cutting Board

Freshly picked spring onions cross the board on the diagonal, tomatoes redden in the background, red onions await the knife: on the worktop of the affordable outdoor kitchen 87 the preparation of lunch has begun. The close-up tells of matter: the dark refractory stone, compact and velvety, draws a sharp edge which the light caresses; below, the glass door of the refrigerator reveals chromed shelves and drinks kept cool. To the side, the warm wooden shelf runs along the wall and softens the scene, while aromatic herbs in terracotta pots bring green to the edge of the frame. It is a true working corner, where every appliance finds its place within the solidity of the volume, sheltered from the weather and ready for use. Michelessi refractory stone kitchens are born of this idea: to bring outdoors the completeness of a true kitchen, with made-to-measure work and the finesse of the Italian artisan. The knife is sharpened: the first cut is yours.

Model 108

Barbecue 108, Anthracite Elegance Among the Palms

Palm leaves frame the scene from above, the white wall reflects the morning light and the barbecue model 108 draws its anthracite profile against the sky. The composition aligns its functions with ease: the cooking chamber crowned by the dark, squared hood, the counter that receives the round sink with its slender mixer tap, the stack of plates ready for the guests. Below, the shelf runs from side to side and the central bay turns the stacked wood into a graphic detail, almost a work of weaving; beside it, wooden crates with a succulent add a lived-in touch. The deck of pale boards underfoot completes the holiday air. Michelessi outdoor refractory stone kitchens know how to be like this: rigorous in their drawing, generous in use, built to measure with the quality of Italian craftsmanship. Imagine the summer evenings before these embers: the fragrance, the voices, the calm. It is all already there, waiting for you.
