Seen this close, gilding is an act of patience: the leaf, thinner than a breath, lifts from the carved corner and holds all the light of the workshop, while the darkness keeps the tools and the white marble bench. This is the heart of our visions: before the splendour hung upon the wall, there is always this suspended instant, when the gold decides to stay.

of a drawing

Michelessi marble frames are born in Aprilia, where the bespoke working of marble has been a family trade since 1976. Every fireplace surround is a one-of-a-kind piece, produced in limited series by master artisans or by high-precision CNC machines, according to the intricacy of the design: volutes carved by hand, mouldings drawn to the millimetre, surfaces polished until they gather the light of the fire. The catalogue, continually updated, embraces antique, classic and modern styles as well as picture-frame fireplaces: browse it at your leisure and find the frame that suits you best, or let our specialists advise you.

If you have already seen a drawing or a photograph of a frame you love, bring it to us: we will turn it into a fully quoted project and then into marble, with a free quotation and roughly three months for its making. Every piece receives fine finishes and a protective treatment, and deliveries reach the whole world, at prices surprisingly reasonable for Italian craftsmanship of this level.

Veined white marble

White garlands for the fire of home

The salon wears the gentle tones of sage grey and dark wood; the mantel in white veined marble lights them all. Grey stone like a sky of rain

Every marble fireplace mantel is born this way: from a drawing. This technical sheet shows the design of a classical mantel, with serpentine legs, a central frieze of foliage and a shaped shelf, accompanied by the dimensions that will guide the work: 151 centimetres in total width, 121 in height, a firebox of 82 by 78 centimetres and an inner side height of 86. Red arrows run across the page like a director's notes: they tell the stone where it must stop, how far it must project, how it must receive the fire. It is the phase clients rarely see, and yet it tells everything about bespoke marble work: before the chisel and the CNC machine come thought, proportion, dialogue with your room.
