A single narrative
in stone

We present the Monte Carlo vision: a penthouse suspended above the harbour of the Principality, conceived as a single narrative in stone. In the salons, Calacatta Oro opens its golden veins in book-matched compositions; on the terrace, an infinity pool lets its surface dissolve into the sea; in the master bathroom, backlit onyx burns like a lantern.

This is a Michelessi project in its every gesture: the selection of the blocks at the quarry, the study of the veining, the cutting and polishing entrusted to the Aprilia workshop, where since 1976 the material has been listened to before it is worked.

Every slab is conceived for the light that will receive it: darkness serves as the stage, a single beam draws the marble, gold remains the only accent. We invite you to ascend with us, room by room, towards the horizon.

In the grand salon, darkness is part of the design. The Calacatta Oro walls, book-matched in the Aprilia workshop, come alight beneath a single raking beam: golden veins run like currents through the warm white of the stone. The floor, large-format slabs laid with the slenderest of joints, faintly mirrors the harbour lights beyond the glazing. No ornament contends with the marble for the stage: a few dark furnishings, a recessed fireplace, and that gold rising from the stone as the sole accent. It is the heart of the vision, the room from which the whole project takes its measure.

On the terrace, stone meets water and water meets the harbour. The infinity pool, edged with solid stone worked in Aprilia to a barely perceptible non-slip finish, extends its mirror until it dissolves into the Mediterranean. As evening falls the water becomes a dark slab, and the lights of the yachts settle upon it like points of gold. The vision provides for massive stone seating, a shaded pergola and a path of pale slabs guiding the eye towards the horizon. Here the project breathes: marble becomes the threshold between the house and the sea.

The master bathroom is the lantern of the house. The honey onyx walls, selected in block and opened like the pages of a book, are backlit slab by slab: light passes through the stone and reveals its amber clouds, like a sunset held within the material. At the centre, a monolithic bathtub carved from the solid gathers that glow and returns it to the water. All else is deliberate darkness: a dark stone floor, burnished fittings, a single frameless mirror. The Aprilia workshop has studied thicknesses and translucencies so that every slab burns with the same intensity. It is the most intimate room of the vision.

Between the salons and the terrace, the vision draws a staircase that seems to carry no weight. Monolithic steps of Calacatta Oro, set into the wall and free on the open side, rise in a curve within a well of half-light; a single shaft of light from above ignites their edges one by one, like keys of gold. A burnished bronze handrail is the only line accompanying the stone. Each step is born of a single block, shaped in Aprilia and finished by hand so that the vein continues unbroken from one tread to the next. It is the ascent that joins the house to its horizon.
