Italian Marble Kitchens for Dubai and the United Arab Emirates

Michelessi SRL has been working marble since 1976 in Aprilia, on the Via Pontina between Rome and Latina. Half a century on, it is still a workshop: slabs in the yard, numerically controlled cutting centres, stonemasons who finish every edge by hand, an in-house technical office with its own architect, and an installation team that travels with the kitchen. Every kitchen for Dubai and the United Arab Emirates is designed and built here, then packed, shipped and fitted at your residence by the same hands that cut the stone.

Dubai does not lack marble. What it rarely offers is a kitchen conceived from the first sketch as one piece of Italian stonework, by the workshop that chooses the block, cuts it and lays it.

• Made in Italy since 1976. We are not a dealer and we do not work from a catalogue: the kitchen is drawn for your room, cut in our own workshop and finished by artisans who have known stone all their lives.
• Slabs chosen one by one. Calacatta, Statuario, Bianco Carrara, Nero Marquina, travertine and onyx are selected slab by slab, so that the veining can be book-matched across an island or a waterfall side. The slab destined for your kitchen is photographed in full and approved by you before it is touched.
• Numerically controlled cutting, hand finishing. Cutting centres give the millimetre precision that a 45-degree mitred waterfall or a sink carved from the slab demand; the hand gives the polished, honed or brushed finish and the joint as fine as a pencil line. Worktops are typically 2 or 3 centimetres thick, with the solid-block effect obtained by mitring down the sides.
• One language of stone. The same block can continue from the kitchen to the floor, the bathroom or the terrace, as in the visions on our Dubai project page, where we imagine the Calacatta Oro of the living room running out to the pool deck.

A marble kitchen is built to the exact dimensions of its room. When that room is in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah, the method stays the one we use in Rome; only the tools for talking to you change.

Measurements

We ask for photographs of the space, hand-drawn measurements of the walls and the position of windows, sockets, drains and appliances. If an architect or a contractor is working on site, we speak with them directly and receive their drawings. Where the project calls for it, our own team checks the final measurements before the stone is cut.

The 3D design

From the measurements comes the three-dimensional design: your finished kitchen set within your room, with the layout of the units, the finishes and the veining of the chosen slab. You review it, refine it with us and approve it before cutting begins. What you see in the drawing is what comes out of the crate.

Samples delivered to your door

The colour of a marble cannot be judged on a screen, least of all under the light of the Gulf. We therefore send samples of the stones and finishes under consideration, to compare in your own room, against your floors and your afternoon sun.

Video calls from the workshop

Over a video call we show you the slabs available, the slab chosen for you before cutting, the work in progress and, where the project allows, the kitchen dry-assembled in Aprilia before packing. You are always welcome in the workshop, less than an hour from Rome: a visit remains the finest way to choose a stone.

Marble is heavy and, in its thinner sections, fragile. Each finished element is protected individually, braced in crates built to the size of the load and numbered in the order of installation. The 3D design travels with the shipment like a map: whoever opens the crate already knows where every piece belongs. The means of transport, the schedule and the formalities for the Emirates are defined in the quotation, according to the destination.

A marble kitchen is finished only once it is fitted. Installation is carried out by our own team: the artisans who followed the work in Aprilia travel with their tools, level the worktops, close the joints along the veining and hand over a kitchen ready for use. Indoors, in an air-conditioned residence, marble behaves exactly as it does in Italy: Calacatta, Statuario and Carrara for the great pale islands, Nero Marquina for a darker note, backlit onyx where the stone is to become a lamp. For a family kitchen in heavy daily use we can cut the same design in Dekton, quartz or Fenix, more forgiving of hot pans and citrus. Outdoors, the desert asks more of a surface: strong sun for most of the year, high temperatures, wind that carries sand, and salt air on the coast. For terraces, pool decks and villa gardens we favour granite, quartzite, sintered stone and stainless steel, which shrug off heat and abrasion. Marble can step outside too, chosen in light colours that absorb less heat, honed rather than polished so that the sun does not glare on it, and protected with a sealer. Quartz composites, which contain resin, we keep indoors, away from direct sun. Every choice is made together, according to how the space will actually be used.

An outdoor kitchen by the pool or on a rooftop terrace is where the Dubai evening happens. We build them in marble, granite, quartzite, sintered stone and stainless steel, with barbecue, sink, burners, and wood-fired or gas oven, made to drawing and to measure. Where fire is the point of the kitchen, barbecue and oven are built in refractory stone, which holds heat and withstands high temperatures; as ready models or bespoke compositions, they can be clad in the same stone as the worktop.
