01 In the steel mould, under the lamp, a heap of marble chips: white, grey, cream and black, with fine sand.

Design vision: a white composite stone worktop with a fine grain under a beam of warm light in the dark

Under the warm beam falling from above, the white worktop reveals its fine grain: thousands of mineral fragments recomposed into a constant surface, without surprises and without whims. This is a vision from our design studio devoted to composite stone: the nobility of marble, redrawn for projects that demand regularity. A material that promises little and delivers everything.

Technical materials

Four materials,
one noble origin

Composite stones are marble's second life: agglomerates that unite the nobility of natural stone with the consistency contemporary projects demand. Marble terrazzo is born of roughly ninety-three per cent natural marble bound by a small share of mineral binder; marble resin of roughly ninety-five per cent natural marble joined by a small measure of polyester resin: in both, the original matter remains the protagonist, recomposed into homogeneous, constant slabs.

Alongside them stand quartz resin — a composite particularly well suited to interior architecture and to the cladding of indoor and outdoor spaces — and veined quartz, which draws its inspiration from the most precious marbles and reinterprets them through modern technological innovation: controlled veining, faithful colours, a beauty that repeats itself without ever copying itself.

In the Michelessi workshop in Aprilia, composite stones are cut, shaped and finished to measure by the same hands we have devoted to natural marble since 1976: Italian craftsmanship applied to kitchen worktops, bathrooms, floors and cladding. Veined Quartz — a Michelessi vision

Veined Quartz, currents of azure in stone

It looks like the sea seen from very high above: azure currents cross an ivory-white ground, interlacing with threads of gold and sand, flowing on the diagonal like long waves that never break. Veined Quartz draws its inspiration from the most precious marbles — those blue-veined stones that have made generations of architects dream — and reinterprets them through the modern technological innovation of composite stone: a controlled drawing, a constant material, a beauty that repeats itself without ever copying itself. Every vein is a journey: set out from one edge of the slab and you will find yourself at the other without noticing. In the Michelessi workshop this surface is cut and worked to measure for kitchen worktops, bathrooms and cladding: the same hands that have always accompanied natural marble also guide composite stone, with cuts oriented on the pattern and edges polished with patience. Quartz Resin

Quartz Resin, pearl grey without borders

Perfection, at times, is a surface with nothing to hide: this Quartz Resin slab is a uniform pearl grey, crossed only by imperceptible variations that keep the material alive beneath the light. No vein, no drawing: only a full, luminous, constant tone, which makes composite quartz the ideal material for interior architecture and for cladding indoor and outdoor spaces, as its own page recounts. It is the surface of rigorous projects: essential kitchens, luminous bathrooms, continuous walls where every joint disappears and only the colour remains. The quartz-based composition grants compactness and strength; the working gives it form. In the Michelessi workshop we cut quartz resin to measure, with the precision that made in Italy stone craft has refined over years at the marble bench: edges, openings and corners are born exact, because on a uniform surface every detail shows. Marble Resin

Marble Resin, a white born of marble

Come closer: that warm white is made of true marble. Marble Resin is an agglomerate obtained from roughly ninety-five per cent natural marble bound by a small measure of polyester resin: on the slab the result is the finest grain, a mineral dust stippling the ivory ground like marble sand seen up close. It is the second life of stone: the noble granules of marble, recomposed into a homogeneous, constant surface without surprises, which keeps the warmth of the original material and adds the regularity that modern projects require. Perfect for worktops, cladding and spaces that need a material, dependable white. In the Michelessi workshop we work marble resin to measure with the same hand we devote to natural blocks: precise cuts, polished edges, details tended in the great tradition of the marble atelier. Here marble is not imitated: it is recomposed, and it is ready for your home.

Production

Where the slabs are born: the production line

Before the home, there is the factory: and it has a severe beauty of its own. In this image a freshly formed slab advances along the rollers of the production line, bathed in an industrial light that tints yellow the steel of the SIMEC machines, Italian technology for stone working. All around, the metal panels, the extraction ducts, the fine dust of labour: this is the moment when composite stone takes shape, passing from raw materials — granules of marble, quartz, binders — to the compact slab that will one day become a kitchen counter or the cladding of a bathroom. Every surface leaving this line carries industrial precision within it and awaits the second half of its journey: the artisan half. Marble terrazzo, the minute mosaic of Venetian terrazzo

Look long enough and every chip becomes a small portrait: the surface of Marble terrazzo is a minute mosaic of marble aggregate — greys, pearls, dove tones, the occasional amber accent — set in a pale ground of terrazzo. It is the poetry of Venetian terrazzo floors, of noble doorways and ancient staircases, translated into a contemporary slab: an agglomerate obtained from roughly ninety-three per cent natural marble united with a small percentage of mineral binder, as its own page recounts.
