The vision

Four rooms,
a single silence

There is a moment, in the Engadin, when the snow ceases to fall and the world falls silent. It is for that moment that we imagined Saint-Moritz: a chalet where split-face Luserna stone rises around the hearth like a mountain wall, where ancient larch guards the warmth of generations, and where Taj Mahal quartzite turns the private spa into a wellspring of light. Every surface is born as every Michelessi project is born: in our Aprilia workshop, where since 1976 the hands of our master craftsmen have listened to the material before ever cutting it.

What we present to you here is a project vision: four rooms conceived for those who seek, beyond the glass, nothing but snow — and within, the certainty of stone. We invite you to walk it with us, room by room, as one walks a winter path.

The Great
Hearth Hall

The hall is a stage of half-light. A single beam falls upon the great fireplace in split-face Luserna stone, rising six metres to antique larch beams reclaimed from an eighteenth-century barn. The fire is the only actor upon the stage; the gold of one burnished brass detail, the only applause. Beyond the full-height glazing the snow falls slowly, and the stone wall seems to carry the mountain onward into the house. Every block would be split by hand in our workshop, following the natural grain, so that the warmth of the fire might meet a material still alive.

The Quartzite
Spa

Descend three steps and the world disappears. The private spa is a shell of Taj Mahal quartzite, golden and translucent as a winter dawn: a bath hollowed from a single block, backlit walls that breathe with light, steam rising slowly in the dark. We chose quartzite for its twofold nature — hard as ice, warm as honey — and in our Aprilia workshop we would hone it with water until it learned to hold the reflection of a candle. A single horizontal window frames the snow: all the rest is silence, stone and breath.

The Winter
Table

The dining room lives by a single gesture: a four-metre monolithic table in Port Laurent marble, absolute black threaded with veins of gold, suspended in half-light beneath one beam. It is the night sky of the Engadin, held fast in stone. Around it, the antique wood panelling withdraws into shadow and yields the whole stage to the marble. The block would be cut, book-matched and polished in our workshop until its two halves mirrored one another like the shores of a frozen lake. When the snow falls outside, the table gathers the candlelight and returns it, gilded, to all who sit around it.

The Master
Bathroom

On the top floor, beneath the pitch of the roof, the master bathroom looks out upon the three-thousand-metre peaks of the Engadin. The walls are of Cristallo quartzite, white and crossed by glints of ice; the bath, sculpted from a single block, rests before the glazing like a boat upon the snow. Burnished brass fittings are the only gold the room is granted. At dawn the first light enters low, kindles the quartzite from within and draws the long shadow of the mountains across the antique wood floor. It is the place we imagine for the first silence of morning, when the night’s snow has yet to know a footstep.
