Here you find Gibus models, enclosures and accessories with the figures declared by the manufacturer, the planning rules and the service. The full department is on Bioclimatic pergolas, awnings and enclosures; the comparison of the three brands we work with is in Gibus vs KE vs Pratic. The other two brands have their own pages: KE Outdoor Design and Pratic.
Who Gibus is: the Padua company behind the bioclimatic pergola
Gibus is an Italian manufacturer of bioclimatic pergolas, fabric pergolas, awnings and glass walls based in Saccolongo, in the province of Padua. According to the history published on its own website, the company started in 1982 with Progettotenda, which made insect screens and roller and vertical awnings; the Gibus brand was born in 1987 and since 2012 the activities have belonged to Gibus SpA, which presents itself as «The Sun Factory». According to the manufacturer, its products are designed and made in Italy at the Padua headquarters, the company is certified ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, and the aluminium is painted in Qualicoat-certified plants and pre-treated with the Seaside process for better resistance and durability over time.
Gibus bioclimatic pergolas: the models and the declared figures
A Gibus bioclimatic pergola is a structure in painted aluminium with a roof of louvres, adjustable or retractable depending on the model: adjustable louvres, when open, let air and light through; tilted, they give shade; closed, they keep the rain off, and the water runs off through integrated downpipes. Retractable louvres gather up and leave the sky open. This is the range, with the subtitles used by Gibus.
| Model | Gibus subtitle (our translation) | Louvres | Notes declared by the manufacturer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Movie | «The smart bioclimatic pergola» | adjustable from 0° to 115° | connected as standard, own app, home-automation control without extra control units; glass walls and zip screens; LED in the louvres and RGB strip |
| Velvet | «With adjustable and retractable louvres» | rotate from 0° to 85° or retract completely (Velvet Motion patent) | LED in louvres and perimeter, RGB strip |
| Velvet Plus | «The most complete in the range» | as Velvet | vertical screens built into the structure, sliding glass walls can be added |
| Varia | «Complete, with built-in enclosures» | adjustable from 0° to 120° | side enclosures built into the structure, invisible when rolled up; free-standing or wall-mounted; Snow melt system |
| Twist | «Versatile, with many accessories» | adjustable | side enclosures or VEPA glass walls; Snow melt system |
| Joy | «Simple and light» | adjustable | modular, free-standing or wall-mounted; zip screens or GLISSE glass walls; dimmable LED |
| Sway | «Slim, with retractable louvres» | retractable | side enclosures or glass walls |
| Energy Pergola | «With integrated photovoltaic panels» | bioclimatic with photovoltaic modules in the roof | integrates with the house's photovoltaic system (net-metering, storage or hybrid) |
Among the patents declared by Gibus for its bioclimatic pergolas, depending on the model, are the Blade Seal gaskets between one louvre and the next for water and air tightness, and the Safe Blade system that stops and reverses the louvres if they meet a foreign object. Wind and snow-load classes for the bioclimatic models are not stated on the manufacturer's web pages: we read them in the technical documentation of the chosen model and write them into the quotation.
Adjustable or retractable louvres: which Gibus to choose
For open sky above the table you need the retractable louvres of Velvet, Velvet Plus or Sway; to adjust light and shade the adjustable louvres of Movie, Varia, Twist and Joy are enough. If you plan side enclosures, Varia and Velvet Plus carry them built in. The shared principles are in Bioclimatic pergola: what it is and how it works.
Which Gibus configuration for which space
Gibus offers the bioclimatic pergola free-standing on four or six posts, wall-mounted at the side on three posts, wall-mounted at the front on two or four posts, and several modules side by side. The wall-mounted versions rest against the wall of the house and suit terraces and porches; the free-standing one stands alone in the garden, next to the pool and the outdoor kitchen; several modules side by side cover a long surface. Where it snows, as in the hills of the Castelli Romani and Ciociaria, it matters that Varia and Twist can have the Snow melt system, which heats the louvres. The differences between wall-mounted and free-standing versions, with sizes, are in Wall-mounted and free-standing pergolas.
Enclosures for Gibus pergolas: Click Zip screens and sliding glass walls
Gibus bioclimatic pergolas close at the sides with two systems declared by the manufacturer: the zip screens of the Click Zip line and the sliding glass walls. The zip screen has its fabric guided in side rails with a zip and the Mag Lock magnetic catch in the front bar, for wind resistance; the fabrics are blackout, micro-perforated shading, transparent (the Cristal fabric, for winter) or insect mesh, and depending on the box type a screen reaches up to seven metres in width. The sliding glass walls use toughened glass, extra-clear or frosted, with an anodised aluminium track and, according to Gibus, noise reduction of up to 19 dB; the VEPA glass walls, with 10 or 12 mm safety glass, straight or angled, can also be fitted to existing porches.
A movable, transparent enclosure remains a protection from wind and rain; if it closes every side permanently, the pergola must be checked with the Council. We explain this in Pergola enclosures: sliding glass walls and zip screens.
Gibus fabric pergolas: inclined and 90°
Besides the bioclimatic models, Gibus makes pergolas with a retractable PVC fabric roof, manual or motorised, from the pergotenda family. The wall-mounted inclined pergolas Quadra, Viva, Jeans and Luce have a three-layer blackout, waterproof fabric carried on cross-profiles, in one, two or three modules. The 90° pergolas Azimut, Zenit and Lani have a fabric roof with curved cross-profiles that carry water to the gutter integrated in the frame: Azimut builds fabric enclosures and glass walls into the structure, Zenit takes zip enclosures and glass walls, Lani is the minimal model. The differences from a bioclimatic pergola are in Retractable-fabric pergolas; if you are still deciding between a bioclimatic pergola, a pergotenda, a canopy, a gazebo or a veranda, the guide Bioclimatic pergola vs pergotenda, gazebo and veranda compares them side by side.
Gibus awnings: folding-arm, drop and tension awnings
Gibus also makes the awnings we install on balconies, terraces and glazed fronts; the maximum sizes are those declared by the manufacturer.
| Awning | Type | Maximum declared size (projection × width) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| TXT | folding-arm, full cassette | 400 × 710 cm | wall fixing only; LED micro spots |
| Nodo | folding-arm, cassette with circular joint | 350 × 590 cm | wall or ceiling fixing |
| Spazio | folding-arm on a square bar | 400 × 1180 cm | Invisible Lock patent; wall or ceiling fixing |
| Duck | folding-arm, round hermetically closed cassette | 300 × 590 cm | wall or ceiling fixing |
| Segno | folding-arm, rectangular cassette | 400 × 710 cm | wall fixing only; LED micro spots |
| Click Cable and Tolo | vertical drop awnings | — | on steel cable, free drop or side guides; Click Cable also without a cassette (Naked) |
| Nivo and Nivo+ | tension awnings for glazing and light structures | — | Nivo motorised as standard, declared wind resistance class 6; Nivo+ with its own frame, class 3 |
Nivo+ is the tension awning with an independent frame, with front legs and a telescopic leg: we treat it in this family and not among the fabric pergolas. According to Gibus all its fabrics are flame-retardant, most of them screen 80 to 90 per cent of the heat and all comply with the European REACH regulation. Types, condominium rules and colours are in Folding-arm, drop and cassette awnings.
Energy Pergola: the Gibus photovoltaic bioclimatic pergola
Energy Pergola is the Gibus bioclimatic pergola with photovoltaic panels built into the roof: according to the manufacturer it connects to the house's photovoltaic system, whether net-metering, with storage or hybrid. Gibus supplies pergola and panels; connection, inverter and grid-operator paperwork fall to a qualified electrician, whom we coordinate in the project. More in Photovoltaic pergolas.
Lighting, sensors, the Gibus Connect app and accessories
Gibus bioclimatic pergolas are operated with the remote control supplied and with the Gibus Connect app; with sun, rain and wind sensors the product responds on its own to the weather. The accessories declared by the manufacturer:
- Dimmable LED lighting: spots in the louvres, perimeter spots in the gutter, RGB strip.
- Snow melt system: louvre heating against settling snow, for Varia and Twist.
- Misting system: patented misting nozzles for the hottest days.
- Heaters and a Bluetooth audio system, with a base unit and peripherals of two speakers each.
- Pedana Deck, laid without fixing to the ground, and Tenda Soft, a draped curtain in Parà Tempotest fabric.
- Colours: Gibus declares thirty colours in its range for glass walls, awnings and screens, with anthracite RAL 7016 in sablé, matt or satin finish; we match the pergola's tone to the stone of the kitchen and the paving.
Gibus in Lazio: the projects published by the manufacturer
The Gibus website publishes some projects in Lazio, for example a house at Olgiata, a terrace in Rome, a villa at Spigno Saturnia and a restaurant in Formia: they are the manufacturer's projects, not ours, and they show how the models sit in real houses and venues. How we work in your area is on our area pages: Rome, Latina, Aprilia, Pomezia and Ardea.
The Gibus pergola in a Michelessi design: stone kitchen, paving, pool
The difference between Michelessi and a pergola installer is that we are stonemasons: the Gibus pergola is born in the same drawing as the outdoor kitchen, the paving and the pool. In the 3D design we decide together where the posts fall relative to the hob, where the downpipes discharge relative to the stone paving, how the firebrick barbecue draws its smoke out through the louvres and which Gibus finish sits well next to a worktop in granite, quartzite, sintered stone or marble. The kitchen is outdoor furniture: if the pergola is closed on every side or services are fixed in place, we first ask the council technician for an opinion. The method is in Outdoor kitchen under a pergola, the kitchens in Outdoor kitchens, the materials in Paving and Pools.
Planning rules for a Gibus pergola: what we check before ordering
A Gibus pergola with movable louvres or a retractable fabric roof, attached or annexed to the house and without permanent enclosures, in many cases falls under Italy's «edilizia libera» (works needing no planning title) introduced by the Salva Casa decree (article 6 of Presidential Decree 380/2001, letter b-ter), but it is not an automatic green light: the municipal building regulations, the landscape restriction, distances and, in a condominium, the building rules still apply. We carry out these checks ourselves, at the design stage, before ordering. The full conditions and the case law are in Permits for pergolas in Italy and, for terraces, in Pergola on a condominium terrace.
Tax deductions and the Gibus manufacturer's declaration
Gibus lists as solar shading products that may qualify for Italian tax deductions its bioclimatic and retractable-fabric pergolas, folding-arm, drop and tension awnings and zip screens, and for every product it issues the manufacturer's declaration, to be kept with the file. The deduction is not automatic: the ENEA requirements and the rates in force are in Tax deductions for awnings and pergolas in Italy, to be checked with your accountant.

Our own installation team services the Gibus pergolas we install, from Aprilia, throughout Lazio: louvre adjustment, sensors, motors, screen fabrics, glass walls. We state the manufacturer's guarantee in the quotation, with the conditions of the use and maintenance manual we hand over with the pergola. Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
Where can I buy a Gibus pergola in Aprilia, Rome or Latina?
From Michelessi: we sell and install Gibus pergolas from Aprilia, on the Via Pontina at km 45.350, throughout Lazio: bioclimatic pergolas, fabric pergolas, awnings, zip screens and glass walls. Beyond the sale we take care of the site survey, the 3D design together with the stone outdoor kitchen and the paving, installation by our own team and service over the years.
Which Gibus bioclimatic pergolas do you install?
We offer and install the Gibus bioclimatic models: Movie, Velvet, Velvet Plus, Varia, Twist, Joy and Sway, plus Energy Pergola with photovoltaic panels. The differences lie in the louvres (adjustable, retractable or both), in built-in or added enclosures and in the accessories. In the design we recommend the model suited to the dimensions, the orientation and the lines of your house.
Are Gibus pergolas wall-mounted or free-standing?
Both. For the bioclimatic models Gibus offers free-standing on four or six posts, wall-mounted at the side on three posts, wall-mounted at the front on two or four posts, and several modules side by side; Varia, Joy and the 90° pergolas come in free-standing or wall-mounted versions, according to the manufacturer's data sheets. At the site survey we measure the supporting wall, the fixings and the water drainage and choose the configuration with you; the difference between the two solutions is in our guide to wall-mounted and free-standing pergolas.
What is the difference between Gibus Velvet and Gibus Movie?
Velvet has louvres that tilt from 0° to 85° and also retract completely, leaving the sky open above the table. Movie, instead, has louvres that tilt from 0° to 115° and comes connected as standard, with its own app and home-automation control. These are the figures declared by Gibus; both accept sliding glass walls and zip screens.
How much does a Gibus pergola cost?
The price of a Gibus pergola depends on the model, the dimensions, the configuration (wall-mounted or free-standing), the enclosures, the accessories and the installation, which differs between a terrace and a garden. We publish no price lists: after the free site survey we give you a written quotation on the design. What drives the price is explained in our guide on the cost of a bioclimatic pergola.
Do I need a permit for a Gibus bioclimatic pergola in Italy?
It depends on the project: a bioclimatic pergola attached or annexed to the house, with movable louvres or a retractable fabric roof and without permanent enclosures, in many cases falls under «edilizia libera» as provided by the Salva Casa decree (article 6 of Presidential Decree 380/2001, letter b-ter), but the municipal regulations, the landscape restriction, distances and, in a condominium, the building rules still apply. If you close it permanently on every side it must be checked with the Council. We tell you at the design stage, before ordering; the full rules are in our permits guide.
Can a Gibus pergola be closed with glass walls for winter?
Yes: every Gibus bioclimatic pergola accepts sliding toughened-glass walls and Click Zip screens, including the transparent Cristal fabric for winter; Varia and Velvet Plus have the enclosures built into the structure. They remain movable protections: if the enclosure becomes permanent the planning regime changes, and we check it with the Council before ordering.
What is the Gibus Energy Pergola?
Energy Pergola is the Gibus bioclimatic pergola with photovoltaic panels built into the roof. According to the manufacturer it connects to the house's photovoltaic system, whether net-metering, with storage or hybrid. Gibus supplies the pergola and the panels; the connection, the inverter and the paperwork fall to a qualified electrician, whom we coordinate in the design together with the outdoor kitchen and the paving.
What guarantee do Gibus pergolas have?
We state the manufacturer's guarantee in the quotation, with the conditions set out in the use and maintenance manual that comes with every pergola and that we hand over at installation. Every product carries a hologram code, which is used to request the manufacturer's declaration needed in tax-deduction files.
Do you provide Gibus service and spare parts in Rome and Latina?
Yes. Service on the Gibus pergolas we install is carried out by our own installation team, from Aprilia, in Rome, Latina and throughout Lazio: louvre adjustment, motors, sensors, fabrics and glass walls. Spare parts are ordered from the manufacturer, stating the model and configuration of your pergola. For care over time we follow the use and maintenance manual.
Can I put a stone outdoor kitchen under a Gibus pergola?
Yes, and it is the design in which Michelessi differs from an installer: we draw pergola and kitchen together in 3D, with the posts away from the hob, the downpipes coordinated with the stone paving, the firebrick barbecue drawing its smoke out through the louvres and a worktop in granite, quartzite or sintered stone matched to the Gibus finishes. We check the planning regime of the whole before ordering, as we explain on our page about the kitchen under the pergola.
Do Gibus pergolas qualify for Italian tax deductions?
They may: Gibus lists them among solar shading products and issues the manufacturer's declaration, but the deduction is not automatic and depends on the ENEA requirements, to be checked case by case with your accountant. The requirements and the rates in force are in our tax-deduction guide.
Where can I see Gibus pergolas near Rome?
In the Michelessi showroom in Aprilia, Via Pontina km 45.350, between Rome and Latina. We go through the Gibus catalogues, colours and finishes with you next to the stone slabs for the kitchen and the paving, and we show you the 3D design of your pergola.
