We sell and install KE Outdoor Design pergolas in Aprilia, between Rome and Latina

Michelessi sells and installs KE Outdoor Design pergolas: the bioclimatic Kedry models, the retractable-roof pergolas Isola and Keplan, the Gennius Vega, the Vertika and Line Glass enclosures and the awnings. The survey, the 3D design and the installation by our own team start from our showroom in Aprilia, on the Via Pontina at km 45.350, and cover Rome, Latina and the whole of Lazio.

KE Outdoor Design is the brand of KE Protezioni Solari S.r.l., based in Noventa di Piave, in the province of Venice. Founded in 1987 on folding-arm, cassette and drop awnings, it belongs to the FrontYard Group (formerly BAT Group) and states that it designs and makes everything in Italy. It also declares UNI EN ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification, and the data sheets of its pergolas and awnings carry CE marking under UNI EN 13561.

What we add is the stone trade we have practised in Aprilia since 1976: the KE pergola is drawn in the same design as the stone outdoor kitchen, the paving and the pool, and the team that lays the granite worktop also erects the pergola. The other families of the department are on the parent page Bioclimatic pergolas, awnings and enclosures.

KE bioclimatic pergolas: Kedry Prime, Kedry Skylife, Kedry Neos, Kedry Plus

KE bioclimatic pergolas are aluminium structures with a roof of adjustable louvres: open, they let air and light through; tilted, they give shade; closed, they form a roof that, on the models with perimeter gutters, drains the rain through downpipes in the columns. Figures declared by the manufacturer:

ModelLouvresMax widthMax projectionWind (EN 13561)
Kedry Primeadjustable up to 135°500 cm705 cmclass 6
Kedry Skylifeadjustable and retractable (they fold back)450 cm (module)611 cm (module)class 6
Kedry Neos175 mm, adjustable up to 115°450 cm600 cmclass 5
Kedry Plusadjustable, linear motors400 cm810 cmclass 6

These are the maximum sizes declared for a single module. Kedry Prime and Kedry Neos have modules that can be joined side by side, the Neos in width or in projection.

Kedry Prime

It is the Kedry with the widest declared maximum width, 500 cm, and louvres adjustable up to 135°. The Vertika Prime screens, on the sides and the front, retract fully into the structure; sliding glass walls, optional LED strips, sensors and home automation can be added, with control from an application. A Classic version has existed since 2024.

Kedry Skylife

The louvres rotate and fold back: with the roof fully open you sit under the sky, which a merely adjustable louvre does not allow. Free-standing on four columns or wall-mounted on two, with Vertika and Line Glass enclosures.

Kedry Neos

175 mm louvres with an integrated drip edge, which take Vertika, Line Glass, drape curtains and sunshade slats. The wind class is 5: on the seafront we weigh it more carefully.

Kedry Plus, Plus A and Plus T

Free-standing structure with linear motors and wind, snow and rain sensors. The Kedry Plus A is the wall-mounted version, fixed to the wall; the Kedry Plus T is the roof variant, with the cover alone.

How louvres, gutters and sensors work is explained in Bioclimatic pergola: what it is and how it works.

Retractable-roof pergolas: Isola 2, Isola 3, Keplan

In the KE catalogue the retractable-roof pergolas have a technical fabric that folds back, on a flat or low-arched roof: they are the pergotende of the range, for a light or very deep cover.

ModelRoofMax widthMax projectionWind (EN 13561)
Isola 2low arch, folding fabric550 cm1000 cmclass 6
Isola 3flat, folding fabricmodularmodular—
Keplan and Keplan Aflat, folding fabric450 cm500 cmclass 6

Isola 2 is free-standing, with powder-coated aluminium profiles, concealed stainless-steel screws, a movable baffle and integrated rainwater collection, over 500 technical fabrics; the variants are the Isola 2 A (wall-mounted) and Isola 2 T (roof only). Isola 3 has full modularity and takes underfloor heating and mechanical ventilation. Keplan has height-adjustable columns, useful on sloping ground. Saki has a roof made of several draped fabrics. The comparison with the bioclimatic pergola is in Retractable-fabric pergolas; if you are still choosing between a pergola, a pergotenda, a lean-to roof, a gazebo and a veranda, the difference is in the guide Bioclimatic pergola, pergotenda, gazebo or veranda: the differences.

Gennius Vega, Xtesa and Hydra: pitched roof and roll-up fabric

The Gennius Vega is the pitched-roof pergola with folding fabric: width up to 1300 cm and projection up to 700 cm, wind class 6, light inserts along guides and columns, a Vertika Prime front screen and programmed opening from the application. Alongside it stand the T1 canopy and the A100 Star, A100 Lux and A2 Compact.

In roll-up fabric pergolas the fabric rolls up instead of folding, with a minimum slope of 7° and over 34 fabric colours. The Xtesa reaches 1500 cm in width and 700 cm in projection, with wind class 6 and water-tightness class 3; the Hydra, with its fabric in a cassette and a slope from 10° to 30°, is declared in wind class 3 and water class 2, so we assess it for sheltered positions. The Sunlight winter garden (Glassroom is the name of the KE family), with a 10 mm laminated glass roof and, since 2024, a photovoltaic version, is covered in Photovoltaic pergolas.

KE enclosures and accessories: Vertika, Line Glass, slats, lighting, heating

Vertika
Vertical drop screens to close one or more sides, in blackout, shading or transparent fabrics; the data sheets show Vertika Prime and Vertika Sunlight, the references the Vertika GPZ, also in clear PVC.
Line Glass
Panoramic sliding glass walls in 10 or 12 mm toughened glass (extra-clear, reflective, etched or smoked), 18 mm high aluminium guides, 3-, 4- or 5-track rails, up to 10 m wide and 3 m high.
Sunshade slats
Vertical powder-coated aluminium slats for privacy, compatible with Kedry Skylife, Kedry Prime, Kedry Neos and Isola 3.
LED lighting
Dimmable strips, white or RGB, in the profiles; the Light&Music kit adds audio.
MORE FTA-e and MORE VMC
Electric radiant underfloor heating (plates under a floating floor) and mechanical ventilation with heat recovery, for Kedry Skylife, Kedry Prime and Isola 3. The KE catalogue has no heating lamps.

If the enclosures make the pergola usable in every season, the permit picture changes, as we explain below; the solutions are compared on the page Pergola enclosures: sliding glass walls and zip screens.

KE awnings: folding-arm, cassette, drop and roller blinds

Among the models, folding-arm awnings: Quad (40 × 40 mm square steel bar, up to 1200 × 360 cm), Victory for large covers, Venezia Gold and Prisma. With cassette: Qubica Flat, Qubica Light, Qubica Plumb, Antalia and Domea. Hood awnings: Serena and America A-B. Drop awnings: Roma, Genova - Maratea and Italia Slim - New Italia. Recessed: Inca, up to 600 cm wide and 360 cm in projection. Roller: Screeny and, flush with the plaster, Screeny Hide (zip or cable). Stainless-steel sails: Kolibrie, Kheope and Kheope K13, the last two declared resistant to the weather and to salt air. The full list is on KE's website. How to choose between folding-arm, drop and cassette awnings, including in a block of flats, is in Folding-arm, drop and cassette awnings.

Wind, snow and salt air: wind class 6 under EN 13561 on the coast

The UNI EN 13561 standard classifies awnings and pergolas by wind resistance. KE gives class 6 as the highest and declares it for some products, not for the whole range: Kedry Skylife, Kedry Prime, Kedry Plus, Keplan, Isola 2, Gennius Vega and Xtesa: class 6 declared; Kedry Neos class 5; Hydra class 3. The Italia Slim drop awning is also class 3. In its FAQ KE links class 6 to a wind of about 88 km/h; for snow it declares a load of up to 350 kg/m² on some products, without tying it to a model: before ordering we check the data sheet of the chosen model.

On the coast at Anzio, Nettuno, Sabaudia and the Circeo, what matters is the wind class, the wind and rain sensors and the materials: powder-coated aluminium profiles (declared for Isola 2) and concealed stainless-steel screws (declared for Isola 2 and Keplan). The class describes the structure and does not replace the sensors: by the sea we always recommend connecting them to the pergola's control. Further reading: Maintenance and durability, Lazio coast and Anzio and Nettuno.

KE in Lazio: the references published by the manufacturer

KE's website shows installations in Lazio carried out by the manufacturer or by other dealers in its network. They are not Michelessi projects: they help to understand what holds up in this climate and how the models are used.

  • Rome, Best Western Plus Hotel Universo: four Kedry Skylife covering 190 m², with Line Glass walls.
  • Rome, Hotel Mercure Roma Centro Colosseo: on the bar terrace, two Gennius Isola 2 and four Gennius Tens covering 65 m².
  • Albano Laziale: a 24 m² Gennius Isola 2 at a villa for receptions, with a glass wall on the side most exposed to the wind and clear-PVC Vertika GPZ on the others.
  • Atina (Frosinone): a wall-mounted Kedry Prime of 450 × 830 cm, about 37 m², with the Light&Music kit, beside the pool of a private villa; structure and louvres in matt brown RAL 8014.
  • Coast of the province of Latina: a 400 × 505 cm Kedry Prime and a Qubica Plumb at a seafront house, replacing four sails torn by the wind.

We design and install the same models in Aprilia and in the areas of Rome, Latina, Aprilia, Pomezia and Ardea, Anzio and Nettuno, the Castelli Romani, Frosinone and the Lazio coast.

The KE pergola in a design with a stone kitchen

A Kedry Prime or an Isola 2 over an outdoor kitchen is the case where being stonemasons really counts. Our technical office draws in a single 3D design the pergola, the refractory-stone kitchen with barbecue and oven, the worktop in granite, quartzite, sintered stone or marble, the paving and the pool, so that columns, downpipes, smoke and lighting are in the right place. Then the same team lays the stone and erects the pergola. The smoke and heat of the barbecue and the oven also weigh in the choice between a louvred roof and a fabric roof.

The kitchen remains outdoor furniture, not a room; where all the sides are closed and services are fixed, we ask for the opinion of the municipal technical office. The subject is explored in Outdoor kitchen under a pergola, Outdoor kitchens and Barbecues and ovens in refractory stone.

Permits for a KE pergola: permit-free work, condominiums, protected areas

A KE bioclimatic or retractable-fabric pergola, attached or annexed to the house and without permanent enclosures, in many cases falls within permit-free building work ("edilizia libera") under article 6, paragraph 1, letter b-ter of Italy's Consolidated Building Act (DPR 380/2001), introduced by the Salva Casa decree; KE also cites the permit-free building glossary (Ministerial Decree of 2 March 2018, item 50). Municipal regulations, landscape protection, condominium rules and distances remain, and a work permanently closed on all sides must be checked with the municipality: we check them for you at the survey, before ordering.

The conditions in full are in Permits for pergolas in Italy; for a condominium terrace there is Pergola on a condominium terrace.

KE pergola prices: what the quotation depends on

The price of a KE pergola is not a price list per square metre: it depends on the model, the size and number of modules, the configuration (free-standing or wall-mounted, with the slab's load capacity to be checked), the enclosures, the motors, sensors, lighting and heating, and the installation. Our quotation lists these items on the same drawing, so you can compare it with others. If the pergola meets the ENEA requirements for solar shading it may qualify for the Italian tax deductions, to be checked with your accountant: Tax deductions for awnings and pergolas; the items of the quotation are in How much does a bioclimatic pergola cost.

KE pergolas in Lazio: showroom, how to order, after-sales service and spare parts

The showroom is in Aprilia, less than an hour from Rome. Here we show you the 3D design and the KE technical material beside the stone slabs. The free survey, the design and the installation by our own team follow the path described in Bespoke pergolas: survey, design, installation; with KE, what is added is the order to the manufacturer, in a wide colour range and with RAL shades on request, and the testing of motors and sensors on delivery.

After installation we remain your point of contact: we order spare parts and fabrics from KE and request the Declaration of Performance (DoP) when it is needed for the tax file. KE declares after-sales service on all its products; we state the manufacturer's warranty in the quotation.

If you have not yet chosen a brand, we set KE beside Gibus and Pratic in the guide Gibus vs KE vs Pratic: how to choose.

The survey and the quotation are free in Aprilia, Rome, Latina and throughout Lazio: write or call Michelessi SRL, Via Pontina km 45.350, Aprilia (Latina); phone and WhatsApp +39 06 9275383.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

Is Michelessi a KE Outdoor Design dealer?

We sell and install KE Outdoor Design pergolas, enclosures and awnings from our showroom in Aprilia, with a free survey, 3D design and our own installation team in Rome, Latina and throughout Lazio. In practice we order the chosen model from KE, draw it together with the stone kitchen, the paving and the pool, erect it and follow the after-sales service.

Where is KE Outdoor Design based and who makes the pergolas?

KE Outdoor Design is the brand of KE Protezioni Solari S.r.l., based at Via Calnova 160A in Noventa di Piave, in the province of Venice. The company was founded in 1987, belongs to the FrontYard Group (formerly BAT Group) with the BAT and Giulio Barbieri brands and states that it designs and makes its products in Italy; the data sheets of its pergolas and awnings carry CE marking under UNI EN 13561.

What is the difference between Kedry Prime and Kedry Skylife?

Kedry Prime has louvres adjustable up to 135° in a module of up to 500 × 705 cm; Kedry Skylife has louvres that rotate and fold back, in a 450 × 611 cm module, leaving the roof fully open. Both are declared in wind class 6 and take Vertika screens and sliding glass walls. The choice depends on how much sky you want to see and the space available.

Do KE pergolas withstand the wind on the Lazio coast?

KE declares wind resistance class 6 under UNI EN 13561, which it gives as the highest in the standard, for some products: Kedry Skylife, Kedry Prime, Kedry Plus, Keplan, Isola 2, Gennius Vega and Xtesa: class 6 declared; Kedry Neos class 5; Hydra class 3. In its FAQ it links class 6 to a wind of about 88 km/h. By the sea we recommend the wind and rain sensors.

Does a KE pergola keep out rain and snow?

With the louvres closed, Kedry Neos, Skylife and Plus have perimeter gutters and integrated drainage; Isola 2 has a movable baffle and integrated rainwater collection. For snow, KE declares a load of up to 350 kg/m² on some products and snow sensors on the Kedry Plus: we read the figure for your model on the data sheet before ordering.

Can a KE pergola be closed with glass walls and used in winter?

Yes, with Vertika screens in transparent, filtering or blackout fabric and with Line Glass sliding glass walls up to 10 m wide; Kedry Skylife, Kedry Prime and Isola 3 also take the MORE FTA-e underfloor heating and the MORE VMC ventilation. If, however, the pergola is permanently closed on all sides it can become a volume: we check it with the municipality before ordering.

Can KE pergolas be controlled from a phone?

KE declares an application for smartphone and tablet, with remote control and timer programming, for Kedry Skylife, Kedry Prime and Gennius Vega; for the Isola 2 the application and climate sensors are optional and the Hydra is controlled from a smartphone. Sensors and home automation can also be integrated on the Kedry Prime. Which controls and sensors to fit to your model we put in the quotation.

Do I need a permit for a KE pergola in Aprilia, Rome or Latina?

In many cases a Kedry or an Isola attached to the house, with adjustable louvres or a retractable fabric and without permanent enclosures, falls within permit-free building work under letter b-ter of article 6 of DPR 380/2001, introduced by the Salva Casa decree. Municipal regulations, landscape protection, condominium rules and distances remain; a pergola closed on all sides is for the municipality. We tell you at the design stage.

Can a stone outdoor kitchen go under a Kedry Prime?

Yes: we draw the pergola, the refractory-stone kitchen, the granite or quartzite worktop, the paving and the pool in a single 3D model, so columns, downpipes, smoke and lighting are in the right place, and the same team lays the stone and erects the pergola. The kitchen remains outdoor furniture, not a room; where all the sides are closed and services are fixed, we ask the municipal technical office.

How much does a KE pergola cost?

We publish no price lists because every KE pergola is made to measure: the quotation depends on the model, the size and number of modules, the wall-mounted or free-standing configuration, the Vertika or Line Glass enclosures, the motors, sensors, lighting and installation. We deliver it item by item on the survey drawing, which is free, and say whether the pergola may qualify for the ENEA solar-shading deductions.

Who provides after-sales service and spare parts for a KE pergola?

After installation we are your point of contact, from Aprilia: we order motors, sensors, fabrics and spare parts from KE. The Declaration of Performance (DoP) is requested from KE with the product code printed on the hologram of the use and maintenance manual, and we take care of it when needed. KE declares after-sales service on all its products; we state the manufacturer's warranty in the quotation.

Where can KE pergolas be seen and chosen in Lazio?

In our showroom in Aprilia, on the Via Pontina at km 45.350, between Rome and Latina, we show you the 3D design and the KE technical material beside the stone slabs of the kitchen and the paving. The KE installations in Lazio are listed above. The survey at your home is free throughout Lazio and serves to choose the model on real measurements.

KE, Gibus or Pratic: which is better for a bioclimatic pergola?

We do not rank them: each manufacturer has different strengths and the choice depends on size, exposure and enclosures. About KE we can say what it offers: the Kedry Skylife with retractable louvres, the Isola 2 with a declared projection of up to 10 m, the Line Glass walls and awning production since 1987. The guide Gibus vs KE vs Pratic compares the models by need.
