Bioclimatic pergolas Aprilia, Pomezia, Ardea: sales and fitting

A bioclimatic pergola is an aluminium structure with a roof of adjustable louvres that controls shade, air and rain: how it works is explained in bioclimatic pergola: what it is and how it works. The showroom is in Aprilia, at Via Pontina km 45.350, on the SS148 between Rome and Latina, with parking in front of the entrance; in normal traffic it takes under an hour from Rome. Here you can set the aluminium profiles of the pergolas beside the stone slabs that will sit under and around them: the outdoor kitchen worktop, the paving, the pool edge. For houses with gardens in Aprilia and its districts, such as Campoleone, Carroceto and Campoverde, there are usually two solutions. A free-standing pergola covers the table in the garden or the pool edge; a wall-mounted pergola extends the living room onto the terrace or in front of the French window and uses the wall as its support. In Pomezia and Torvaianica, a seaside district, the choice rests on wind and salt air. Near the sea three things matter:

• Wind. KE Outdoor Design declares wind resistance under the UNI EN 13561 standard: Kedry Skylife, Kedry Prime, Kedry Plus, Keplan, Isola 2, Gennius Vega and Xtesa: class 6 declared; Kedry Neos class 5; Hydra class 3. In KE's FAQ class 6 corresponds to about 88 km/h. Where a maker declares no wind class we do not invent one: we check the catalogue before proposing the model.
• Salt air. Gibus and Pratic declare Qualicoat paintwork with a Seaside pre-treatment.
• Sensors. Wind and rain sensors close the roof on their own; on some models they are optional, and we state this in the quotation.

In Ardea, Tor San Lorenzo and Lavinio, a district of Anzio, houses with gardens and second homes stand a short distance from the sea: the typical need is a shaded place to eat outside, sometimes with the pool alongside. In Torvaianica, Tor San Lorenzo and Lavinio many pergolas cover homes that stand empty for weeks. For this reason the design settles together the sensor that closes the roof in wind or rain and the remote control for when you are at home. For cleaning after the summer, lukewarm water, neutral soap and a soft sponge are enough; never a high-pressure washer, which spoils the paintwork.

In many cases a bioclimatic pergola attached or annexed to the house, with movable louvres or a retractable fabric roof, falls under "edilizia libera", works needing no building title (article 6, letter b-ter, of Italy's Consolidated Building Act), as long as it creates no permanently enclosed space. What changes here is who receives the application: in Aprilia the one-stop building office (Sportello Unico per l'Edilizia), in Pomezia and Ardea the town's technical offices, each with its own building regulations. Along the coast there may be a landscape restriction, and in a condominium the building rules and the administrator matter. A pergola with an outdoor kitchen works when shade, fire and water are planned together. Michelessi draws the pergola in the same 3D project as the stone outdoor kitchen, the paving and, where there is one, the swimming pool, and the same team fits it. Barbecue and oven are in refractory stone, the worktop in granite, quartzite, sintered stone or marble. The barbecue goes where the open louvres let the smoke out, away from fabric and plastic parts. A restaurant, bar or beach club can cover its garden or terrace with a pergola, but the land and the concession matter: on private land the building rules above apply; on public land a municipal occupation concession is needed, normally with removable structures; on maritime state land the structure must be provided for in the establishment's concession.
